Alabama graduation has brought Washington D.C. to Tuscaloosa. President Donald Trump is speaking in Coleman Coliseum for an early commencement speech. Right before Trump took the stage, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban was up at the podium.

Trump went on to maybe give Crimson Tide athletic director Greg Byrne some advice, saying Saban should come out of retirement. He was complimentary of the College Football Hall of Famer but quickly switched his focus to Kalen DeBoer.

“What a great coach,” Trump said of Saban. “Let’s bring him back. No, you have a good coach right now, though.”

Saban has only been out of coaching for one season. A quick transition to the media world was made and with an immense amount of success as well. He has seemed like a natural on ESPN College GameDay, joining Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and Kirk Herbstreit with no real issues.

More likely than not, Trump is not going to get his wish. Saban will remain working for ESPN and his only involvement in Alabama games will come from a suite in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Miss Terry will accompany him, barring GameDay does not clash with the start time.

DeBoer has a massive season ahead of him, looking to get his squad back into the College Football Playoff. Some massive decisions are ahead before the opener against Florida State, primarily who will be the starting quarterback. Whether or not Trump has an opinion on the race between Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell, we do not know.

President Donald Trump makes return to Tuscaloosa

Thursday is not the first time Trump has been involved with the University of Alabama. He has attended a couple of football games at Bryant-Denny Stadium throughout the years. First was back in 2019 for the all-time classic against the LSU Tigers. Joe Burrow likely has a fonder memory of that game than anyone in crimson, especially Saban.

And then this past season, Trump watched Alabama take down Georgia. DeBoer was in charge and earned what was his first major win in front of the fanbase. Certainly a historic night for the program in the post-Saban era.

In total, Trump is 1-1 seeing Alabama live during his political career, from a Crimson Tide fan’s perspective. Both games have been highly entertaining as well, going late into the fourth quarter. One of the perks of being president, getting to view classic SEC football games in person.
