ESPN report: Ryan Grubb to remain Washington offensive coordinator after meeting with Nick Saban

A new development on Alabama’s search for a new offensive coordinator. After conducting a meeting with Nick Saban on Monday regarding the open OC position with the Tide, Washington’s Ryan Grubb will not join the Alabama staff, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reports. Instead, he’ll remain with the Huskies. Here was that news, which Rittenberg posted to Twitter on Tuesday:
“Source: #Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will remain with UW after meeting with Nick Saban about Alabama’s OC job Monday in Tuscaloosa. Grubb was a top target at Bama but will stay with the Huskies.”
Further reporting from Christian Caple revealed that Grubb was actually offered the Alabama OC job by Saban but ultimately decided to pass on it and stay with Washington.
Here was Caple’s report:
“After interviewing at Alabama yesterday for their OC job and receiving an offer, Ryan Grubb has decided to stay at Washington, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. No new money involved, I’m told.”

Grubb has been alongside Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer for the past three seasons, beginning in 2020 at Fresno State. He was retained from the Bulldogs’ previous staff and made a jump to the Power Five level around this time a year ago.
Washington saw immediate offensive production with Grubb, who is serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. With quarterback Michael Penix Jr. transferring in as well, the Huskies averaged 515.8 yards of total offense and finished seventh in scoring offense at 39.7 points per game.
Grubb reportedly agreed to an extension with Washington back in November, keeping him with the Pac-12 program through the 2025 season. He will be well taken care of financially as well, making as much as $1.67 million — making him the highest-paid assistant in Huskies history. And he will continue to be just that. Perhaps after rejecting the Crimson Tide, an even larger raise is in the mix down the road.
