At the NFL Combine, Bryce Young’s measurables were small. That was to be expected and, as ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay explained, remains the only concern that teams have about him.

Following the release of his latest mock draft, McShay made an appearance on Get Up. There, he explained why Young is still his first player drafted and wondered if Mel Kiper Jr. is going to change his mind on Young based on his weight.

“Well, Kiper says if he’s over 195 lbs he’s gonna move him up to number one,” Todd McShay said. “So, we’ll see if that changes but 204 [lbs] shows the importance he’s put into nutrition and getting bigger and stronger.”

Even though Bryce Young is under six feet tall, being over 200 lbs is a huge deal. It implies that he can take a beating in the NFL without getting injured.

“He knows he took a beating in the SEC. Had the shoulder injury that bothered him for a few weeks. Other than that, though, was durable. And, so, you got back to 2006 when we started researching this, he would be the only player that had the least weight at 204 lbs of any first-round quarterback taken,” McShay said.

“So, I love his poise. I think he plays the game so under control. It’s so slow to him. To me, he’s a smaller Patrick Mahomes but if you’re sitting there at number one or you’re trying to trade up to get him the only concern you have is, is he gonna be on the field? Can we keep him on the field or is it gonna be a Tua Tagovailoa situation?”

Bryce Young addressed his size concerns

At the NFL Combine, Bryce Young addressed concerns about his height and weight at the next level.

“It wasn’t, really, too big for me. I wanted to be at the best weight that I thought was best for me, so that was really a point of emphasis just for my growth. I know everyone had an opinion and it was super valid. But for me, I was kind of just focusing on what I feel like would get me more prepared for the next level,” Young said.

“I think I feel pretty good where I’m at. It was good for me to be able to just focus on training and nutrition and all that in this break from when I was playing to preparing for the combine. I think this is something that’s new for me, a little bit. But I’ve been working out, training and still feel good. I feel good where I’m at.”
