Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams established himself as one of the nation’s best offensive playmakers in his first season with the Crimson Tide. Williams transferred to Alabama this season after two years at Ohio State.

His first season in Tuscaloosa was an extremely productive one. Williams caught 68 passes for 1,445 yards and 15 touchdowns. His 1,445 receiving yards placed him fifth in the country, and he was second in receiving touchdowns. Williams averaged 21.3 yards per reception, which was the fifth best total across college football.

After his strong season for Alabama, Williams was named a first-team AP All-American. But Williams was snubbed for other awards. Williams said that he uses those snubs as motivation, but he added that he looks for anything to help him motivate himself.

“I feel like I use everything as motivation,” Williams said. “Not just coming up short for an award. I feel like I use any tiny thing as motivation. So I would say yes.”

Williams began his collegiate career at Ohio State, playing a minimal role during two years prior to coming to Alabama. In two seasons with the Buckeyes, Williams caught 15 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns.

Williams could be taken higher than former Alabama WR Devonta Smith in the NFL Draft

Last season, Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith went tenth overall to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Draft. Williams could be in line for an even higher selection than the former Alabama star. ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay has Williams going eight overall to the Atlanta Falcons in his initial 2022 NFL mock draft.

McShay is extremely high on the explosive offensive star. Williams is one of the fastest players in the country, and McShay thinks that Williams has a shot at rising into the top five come draft night.

“If there’s going to be an offensive skill player that cracks the top-five, it’s going to be Jameson Williams,” McShay said. “He was an Ohio State transfer. One-year player at Alabama. He comes in and he’s an absolute burner on tape. He’s average 21.3 yards per catch.”

Williams is a versatile weapon on the offensive side of the ball, but he plays a valuable role on special teams as well.

“He’s also great in the kick return game,” added McShay. “He’s averaged 34-plus yards per kickoff return with two touchdowns. Did you watch him as a gunner? I don’t know if you’re going to use him, an early first round pick as a gunner, but this guy just gets after it. You just love his competitiveness and the way he plays the game and you can’t replace that top-end speed that he has.

“That’s why I think he has a chance. If any offensive skill player is going to crack the top-five, it would be Jameson Williams from Alabama.”
