Jameson Williams makes Alabama history in dominating effort vs. Arkansas

Jameson Williams has emerged as the next great wide receiver to play under Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
It’s almost impossible to list the bevy of superstar wide receivers who have come through Tuscaloosa in recent history, winning the highest honors and placing their names in the record books along the way. From Julio Jones to Jerry Jeudy. Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith is the latest example.
But even those elite wide receivers didn’t accomplish the feat that Williams conquered on Saturday. According to the official Alabama football social media accounts, the star Crimson Tide wideout became the first player in Alabama history with four receiving TDs of 75+ yards in a season.
Here’s the 79-yarder that put Jameson Williams in the Alabama football history books. It was his first in a game where the dominant wideout posted a hat trick.
Statistically, the Ohio State transfer had the best performance of his career on Saturday, finishing the night with eight receptions for 190 yards and three touchdowns. In a game where the Razorbacks continued to keep Alabama on its heels, the tandem of Jameson Williams and quarterback Bryce Young were virtually unstoppable.
Young had his own record-breaking performance and closed out the game with most college football media putting him now as the clear frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy.
As a transfer wide receiver from Ohio State, the St. Louis (Mo.) native is having a breakout season. He leads the Crimson Tide for receiving yards (1,028), touchdowns (10), yards per catch (20.2 ypg), and yards per matchup (102.8 ypg). Williams has five 100-yard performances this year and is one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award. The 6-foot-2, 189-pounder leads the Southeastern Conference for receiving yards (No. 12 nationally) and touchdowns (tied for second in the nation).

On3’s Matt Zenitz put Jameson Williams’ accomplishment into perspective with some great research.
Nick Saban compliments Jameson Williams
The Alabama head coach isn’t one to boost egos or blow smoke, it’s never been his coaching style. So when Nick Saban goes out of his way to give a specific player a sincere compliment, it’s significant.
While it’s impossible to overlook the star receiver’s eye-popping stats, he’s also a willing blocker and has been complimented for his effort in every facet of the game, including having a core role on special teams.
That level of dedication led to Saban giving Jameson Williams the ultimate compliment, and the Alabama superstar says the words from his coach literally changed him.
“When Nick Saban gave me a compliment and called me a ‘dog,’” Williams said in stating the greatest compliment at Alabama that changed him as a player. “I feel like I have been that, but who it came from. … He is the greatest. He saw a lot of guys before he saw me. He got a chance to coach me. For that to come from him, it just means a lot.”
Jameson Williams isn’t done yet and there are surely more thrills to come.
