ESPN’s Jordan Rodgers called Alabama QB Ty Simpson the best signal caller in the country, especially since they shook off a Week 1 loss. Alabama has won five in a row and are back in the thick of things when it comes to the SEC title race and the College Football Playoff.

Simpson has really come into his own after developing for years at Alabama under Nick Saban and then Kalen DeBoer just last year. But it’s a stark difference compared to his uneven appearances in 2024.

With the way he’s playing, Rodgers was confident in saying Simpson was at the top of college football. It’s easy to see why right now.

“That’s Ty Simpson. I think since Week 1, that loss against Florida State, he has been lights out,” Rodgers said on Get Up. “(16) touchdowns, just one interception. But it’s the type of throws that he’s making. I don’t think anybody in college football anticipates as well as he does, and layers the football, which means throws it up and over linebackers into the second level with accuracy in tight windows. (He) also (has an) incredible amount of athleticism that I don’t think he gets enough credit for to extend plays on the outside. I think he’s playing at such a high level right now.”

This year, Simpson has 16 touchdown passes, one interception, 1,678 yards and a 70.9% completion percentage. He didn’t throw a touchdown in an Alabama uniform until this year.

Simpson is all about perfection too. He might be the perfect mold to play QB at Alabama considering he ripped the offense even after a win over Missouri last week, per BamaOnline’s Charlie Potter.

“It brings us with him. As he wants to improve on his past game, he brings us along,” Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor said. “He’s just a great leader, speaks all the time. Ripped our ass when we were in the team meeting yesterday. He knows how to get us riled up, and he’s a great leader. He’s one of the best I’ve ever been around.”

Simpson declined to reveal his full message, but the quarterback did share a synopsis to local media this week. He wants to shoulder the load.

“I think it’s gonna stay between the offense, but I just kind of told it how it was, how I felt as a leader,” Simpson said. “It’s my job to make sure that I get the best out of the guys, and I get the best out of myself. And I just felt like the last couple of games we hadn’t executed very well in some things. So, I just wanted to make sure that the guys understand what the standard is here, and what the standard is of this offense.”
