Kalen DeBoer reacts to Ty Simpson fiery offensive meeting, reveals message

During a team meeting this week following Alabama’s win over Missouri, the Crimson Tide held a team meeting. Ty Simpson spoke up, and according to offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor, it got fiery.
Kalen DeBoer said the message was simple. The players know they’re capable of more, and he wants them to maintain that fire as the SEC portion of the schedule rolls along.
DeBoer said getting off to a fast start is important, and Alabama has done that throughout its five-game win streak. But Simpson wants to help make sure the players stay hungry for more, which is why he spoke up when he did.
“These guys are ready to go,” DeBoer said on Hey Coach and the Kalen DeBoer Show. “I don’t question that. We’ve scored early in games most of the games we’ve played – on the first drive, second drive. I really appreciate the way that they prepare and the mindset coming into the game with the confidence. It’s just keeping your edge.
“That’s what’s hard when you’re going against a great football team every single week in these opponents that are all ranked, that have great football players, that are preparing for you just like you’re preparing for them. That’s the key, is to keep that edge. And that’s what Ty’s doing a great job of making sure the offense does.”

Kalen DeBoer: ‘They know they’re capable of more’
Simpson has emerged as a leader for Alabama after winning the quarterback competition in training camp. He’s also leading the charge in the Crimson Tide’s win streak, completing 70.9% of his passes for 1,678 yards and an SEC-leading 16 touchdowns, to just one interception.
But off the field, he also wants to make sure his teammates are living up to a high standard. DeBoer wants that, as well, and is emphasizing a ned to finish drives throughout the game heading into a Third Saturday in October rivalry matchup with Tennessee.
“The practices have been high energy, as you would expect going into Tennessee and the rivalry that it is,” DeBoer said. “I think it’s just, they know that they’re capable of more. Ty knows that. It’s across the board – it’s not like it’s one particular person. It’s just, everyone keep raising their game. And they’ve done that.
“They’ve executed. They’ve especially executed in big moments. I think they just want to focus on finishing drives when they have the opportunities and continue to execute in big moments.”
