Latrell Wrightsell limped off the court on Saturday against St. John’s after drilling a 3-pointer in transition. The Alabama guard is in his first game back after suffering an Achilles injury last November.

It was an apparent injury — however, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein revealed that Wrightsell was only dealing with cramps. Thats a massive break for the Crimson Tide, who has missed Wrightsell’s services for nearly a full calendar year.

The 3-point attempt came with just over 15 minutes left in the second half. Wrightsell was responsible for 14 points, including shooting 4-of-6 from the 3-point line to go with two assists, steals and rebounds a piece.

Wrightsell would return to the game later in the second half after missing several minutes of action. He played eight more minutes during the game and ended the game with 17 points, four steals, three assists and three rebounds.

While Wrightsell did get hurt last season, that’s not what help him out of the season-opener against QUinnipiac on Monday night. He was dealing with a finger injury heading into the matchup, which sustained in the Furman exhibition, but was cleared to return for the second game of the season.

Wrightsell was granted a medical redshirt after sustaining his injury last year, adding an extra year of eligibility to the graduate student’s college career. He played eight games before going down with the Achilles injury and averaged 11.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 42 percent from deep prior to his injury.

The Crimson Tide would go on defeat St. John’s 103-96 in a back-and-forth, high-scoring matchup. The matchup, which was played in Madison Square Garden and treated like at St. John’s home game.

Looking ahead, Alabama’s tough stretch doesn’t let up. The Crimson Tide will turn around and host No. 1 Purdue on Thursday night. After that, they’ll take on No. 17 Illinois on Nov. 19 and No. 21 Gonzaga on Nov. 24.

December will be a little lighter on Alabama’s schedule, but they’ll still have matchups against the like of Clemson and No. 13 Arizona before beginning SEC play in January. It’s safe to say the Crimson Tide boast one of the toughest non-conference slates in the country this season.

With Wrightsell looking to be in the clear injury-wise, the Crimson Tide can focus on the task at hand: defeating the top-ranked team in the country. Tip-off between Alabama and Purdue is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. ET live on ESPN2.
