LOOK: Author chimes in on Lane Kiffin's picture of book about Nick Saban
While Lane Kiffin might be channelling Sun Tzu and studying his adversary ahead of the Ole Miss–Alabama matchup in Oxford this weekend, the author of his reference material took to Twitter to join in on the jokes.
On Tuesday afternoon, Kiffin tweeted a picture of “The Leadership Secrets of Nick Saban,” written by AL.com sports editor John Talty. Talty quote-tweeted the Ole Miss head coach and added his own take.
“Need Lane to stop driving attention and sales for my book,” Talty tweeted before making the classic Alabama joke about rat poison.
This is not the first foray into some pregame media work from Kiffin, who has twice this season hyped up his former employer, the Tennessee Volunteers, ahead of big games.
Now the former Alabama offensive coordinator seems ready to tango before the Crimson Tide comes to town.
This is the second time Kiffin has made mention of Saban ahead of the game
Kiffin, who worked for Saban from 2014-16 as his offensive coordinator, has not been shy about calling Saban the ‘best coach to ever do it.’
Earlier this week he got on ESPN personality Paul Finebaum for providing Nick Saban with what he called ‘GOAT fuel’ by essentially declaring the Saban dynasty dead in Tuscaloosa. And on Tuesday, he tweeted a picture of Talty’s book sitting on his desk with a red pen just above it.

What’s interesting is that Saban said this summer he did not plan to read the book, which was written without input from him.
He does not have an author credit on the book, either, unlike three others that have been written about his experiences as a college football coach.

“Well I wrote one once,” said Saban. “I don’t plan to read the new book that’s out. I don’t really know what’s in it, and I don’t know what is right, what is wrong, what is good [or] what is bad. I used to get really upset when people did things like this, but I’ve kinda learned it kinda is the way of the world now.
“We don’t endorse the book in any way. I don’t plan to sign any of those books because I haven’t read it. I don’t know what’s in it. And I don’t know what’s correct and what’s incorrect, but it is what it is. One of these days, maybe when I don’t have anything else to do — which is not anytime soon I hope — I might consider it.”
