Miami first basemen Jason Torres commits to Alabama

Miami transfer first basemen Jason Torres has committed to Alabama, he announced via Instagram on Thursday evening. Torres projects as one of the best players in the NCAA transfer portal this cycle, being a huge get for head coach Rob Vaughn.
Just finishing up his sophomore season in Coral Gables, there is a little bit of positional versatility with Torres. While first base was his primary spot, there could be an option to play him at third base if Alabama desires. But his main attraction is certainly the bat, putting up eye-opening numbers during the 2024 season.

Torres played in 39 games this season, finishing with an average of .331. He crushed eight home runs and drove in 32 RBIs with an OPS of .914.
From a fielding perspective, Torres committed just three errors and had a fielding percentage of 99%, up from the previous year at 91.7%. Good numbers for a guy capable of playing either corner infield spot.
Originally from Hialeah, FL, Torress attended Miami Springs High School. He will be leaving his hometown in order to play in the SEC and is likely hopeful of being drafted this time next season. No better showcase than what’s presumed to be college baseball’s best conference.
If he does wind up getting drafted, it would be a major success for Alabama — looking for a better run in the NCAA Tournament in Vaughn’s second season.

Alabama outfielder Parker Picot enters NCAA transfer portal
Alabama outfielder Parker Picot will enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on social media. He played just one season for the Crimson Tide.
“I’d like to thank the University of Alabama for my time spent with the program,” Picot wrote on Twitter. “With that being said I will be entering the transfer portal. I am playing in the Northwood league for the Royal Oak Leprechauns this summer!”
Picot played in three games during his freshman season and had one hit across two at-bats in 2024.
Picot entered Alabama after playing high school ball at Rochester Adams High School (Mich.). He was the No. 1 overall prospect in the state, according to Perfect Game USA.
As a senior, Picot batted .387, had 45 hits, 12 home runs and 43 RBI. He also maintained a 1.88 ERA with a 5-1 record and 88 strikeouts on the mound.
