Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews was on a visit to Alabama Wednesday afternoon. He shared pictures from the visit on Instagram.

The trip to Tuscaloosa was the third for Matthews who last visited on Oct. 8.

Matthews is the No. 8 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Georgia.

The 6-foot-0.5, 180-pounder holds several Power Five offers and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Georgia with a narrow lead over multiple schools to land a commitment from Matthews

A standout on the basketball court as well, Matthews didn’t begin his run of spring visits until later in March. He started with a visit to Georgia (March 23) and followed that up with visits to Auburn (March 29), Tennessee (April 3), NC State (April 4) and most recently to Alabama.

Between all of those visits, Matthews announced his top 12 of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Colorado, USC, Tennessee, LSU, Michigan, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Ohio State on March 28.

“I don’t really talk to them as much (as other schools), but when I do talk to them, it’s about football and life,” Matthews said of Alabama in mid-March. “Most of the same stuff I talk to other coaches about. I’ve been to a camp there before so I know how they coach, but I want to see how they coach actual players and actually act with their players.”

Matthews currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $319K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Alabama building another standout class

After finishing with the No. 1 class in the 2023 recruiting cycle and signing seven five-star prospects, the Crimson Tide are once again building another standout class.

Alabama has the No. 3 class in the country with four commitments so far but three of their four commitments are ranked as top-50 prospects.

The Crimson Tide’s commitments include five-star athlete Jaylen Mbakwe, five-star quarterback Julian Sayin, four-star wide receiver Perry Thompson and four-star linebacker Sterling Dixon.
