Nick Saban disappointed in offensive performance, offers solution

No. 6 Alabama got back on track last night with a win in Tuscaloosa over then No. 24 Mississippi State. Even so, Nick Saban still wasn’t happy with the offensive output from the Tide.
Saban broke down his issues with his team’s 30-point performance against the Bulldogs during last night’s postgame press conference. He says their inability to run the ball killed some of their offensive production.

“We didn’t play very well (or) with any consistency on offense. That starts with what I said before. We couldn’t run the ball very well,” said Saban. “That affects play action passes. I thought we had some RPO throws that we should have taken that we didn’t take. And we missed a couple.”
Alabama’s running back corps combined for just 53 rushing yards on the night. Jahmyr Gibbs was the leader in that category with just 37 yards on 10 attempts, even though he did rush for a touchdown.

There’s an obvious for the Tide to improve their offense in Saban’s mind. Once Bryce Young is back at 100%, he knows the offensive attack will reach another gear.
“I think Bryce played really well in the game. But I think getting him back 100% will really help,” Saban said. “I think he could practice at some point in time before we get ready for our next game (and) that’d probably help him as well.”
Considering Alabama’s offense ranks fifth in the nation with an average of 43.1 points per game, all is not lost for the Tide’s offense. Still, they’ve had some costly or nearly costly mistakes throughout the season that Saban wants to see them clean up. It starts with the run game and Young’s healthy, which will both hopefully be better in two weeks at LSU.
