The culture Nick Saban has built at Alabama was epitomized by one singular moment after Alabama’s nail-biter victory over Texas A&M on Saturday.

Sidelined with an injury, Bryce Young watched as backup Jalen Milroe led the Crimson Tide to a win. When the Aggies couldn’t score a game-winning touchdown as time expired, the duo shared an incredible moment, hugging and sharing some words after the emotional victory.

Afterwards, Saban was asked about the moment, which you could tell warmed his heart and showed what he’s all about.

“I think it’s important to have that kind of chemistry on your team. I think that, everybody’s got to make a choice and decision, are you going to put the team first? You can’t have self indulgent behavior and have a good team. So guys can’t put what they feel like doing ahead of anything else,” stated Saban. “There’s no question that Bryce is a great competitor. He wants what’s best for the team. He was very supportive, he’s been very supportive all week of helping Jalen every way that he can. He also wants to play. He actually wanted to play at the end of the game. I think it’s really, really good that you have players that support each other. Bryce is a good leader, that’s what good leaders do. They set a good example, which Bryce does, but they also put their teammates in-front of other people for their benefit.

“I think that kind of sort of reaction to Jalen, when he probably wishes that there was a couple of things that happened in the game that didn’t happen for him, is probably really good for Jalen’s growth and development.”

Moreover, Milroe made Young proud on Saturday, passing for 111 yards and three touchdowns against the vaunted SEC rival. While the reigning Heisman Trophy winner may return next weekend against Tennessee, the backup quarterback did his job and then some in relief.

No matter who the starting quarterback is, the support of the entire Crimson Tide quarterback room is behind them. In this era of college football, that’s possibly more important than anything.
