Paul Finebaum wants to 'end college football' if Alabama misses College Football Playoff based on SEC Championship

Paul Finebaum is ready to end the sport of college football if Alabama misses the College Football Playoff. Well, not really, we think.

There is debate if there should be penalties for the conference championship losers. In this case, if Alabama loses its rematch with Georgia in the SEC Championship, they will have three losses and could drop out of the bracket.

Finebaum does not think that should be the case. But if that does happen, it’s time to sound the alarms.

“That would be the end of conference championship games as we know it,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “They’re billion dollar ventures. But it is so absurd to hear what Heather just said, as rational as she is, and as smart as she is, I’m just about to jump out of my chair and scream the fact that these committee members, they all sit there and they have their caviar and their Dom Perignon together, then they go into the next room and make what could be the dumbest decision in the history of sports, to deny a team who beat the team that just beat them on their home field in the regular season.

“So this committee is going to look Kalen DeBoer and Alabama in the eye and say, Sorry we didn’t like the way you performed in the fourth quarter when the game was three touchdowns down and you were a little bit sluggish and you didn’t get your running game going.’ Greeny, that should end college football right there, if that happens.”

As far as Alabama being in panic mode if they lose to Georgia, after beating them earlier this year, head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about the possibility. He made their case.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t have anything prescribed. The things that come right now is we’re in the championship game with a 7-1 record. Won four conference games on the road in the toughest conference,” DeBoer said of Alabama’s resume. “I mean, it’s the toughest conference in the country. For us to be in this spot and to do what we do, won 10 of our last 11 games… You can get into a lot more details on it.

“I just think when you’re really trying to have a Playoff, you need your best teams in there. There’s no doubt in my mind that we are one of the best teams. I don’t say that arrogantly. I just really believe that’s what it is. There’s a ton of metrics I know people look at: strength of record, FPI. We’re right at the top. Especially if you’re even considering us to even be a bubble team, we definitely are above those teams that are in that realm as far as those bubble teams. Playing in your conference championship in the SEC shouldn’t be something that we’re worried about as far as what that would do to our Playoff hopes. We got here by earning it.”
