Roman Harper rips Alabama defensive effort in loss to Oklahoma: 'We got our butts kicked'

Former Alabama defensive back Roman Harper is furious with his alma mater’s effort this past week against Oklahoma. The Crimson Tide made a trip to Norman and left with a 24-3 loss on a day where the Sooners generated 260 yards rushing.
Harper made an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday where he teared into Alabama for how it let the Sooners run all over it. Finebaum started off by asking what happened in the loss, and Harper was fiery from the start.
“What do you mean what happened? We got our butts kicked,” he fired back. “They weren’t physical enough. Look, if you don’t come in with the right mentality, the right amount of emotions and game plan, you will lose in the SEC. It’s been proven. We’ve all seen it happen week after week. I thought Oklahoma outcoached them. I thought they outhit them. When you turn the ball over and you can’t stop a quarterback run — because I don’t think Oklahoma passed for but 60-something yards.”
In fact, OU passed for just 68 yards in the game. It was obvious their plan was to continue running the ball yet the Crimson Tide failed to prepare and allowed OU to average 5.3 yards per carry.

Harper would go on to question the “inconsistencies” in Alabama’s season, as it has often followed big wins with bad losses. The Crimson Tide had defeated LSU just two weeks before the loss to OU.
It wasn’t the first such instance this season.
“The inconsistencies at Alabama is very frustrating as a fan,” he said. “I understand fans are frustrated because you beat Georgia then you lose to Vanderbilt. You beat LSU and then you come back and you lose to Oklahoma, which if you told me you’re gonna lose to Oklahoma at the beginning of the season, I’m not surprised by that. But with the way Oklahoma has looked this year, I was surprised.”
Alabama closes out the year with a matchup in the Iron Bowl against Auburn, which it has won the past four games against. It will look to improve its performance with many fans doubting what it can do.
