Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams has shown that he is one of the most exciting players in all of college football. Then then-freshman hauled in 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns last season. This year, he boasts 36 grabs, 528 receiving yards and four touchdowns in seven games.

Williams hauled in his fourth touchdown reception of the season last Saturday in Alabama‘s 20-9 victory over LSU. Alabama‘s star wideout joined Wednesday night’s edition of the ‘Hey Coach & The Kalen DeBoer Show‘. There, he was asked who the most athletic player on the team was.

“It’s me by far,” Williams said with a chuckle. “I’m trying to tell you, we can play pool, water polo, whatever. It doesn’t matter.”

The sophomore star has formed an extremely strong receiver duo with senior Germie Bernard, who boasts 605 yards receiving and six scores this season. Williams and Bernard have been quarterback Ty Simpson‘s go-to targets, en route to a phenomenal 21-1 TD-INT ratio and Heisman Trophy consideration.

Kalen DeBoer speaks highly of his star wide receiver

“He’s just as unselfish and leads in a special way,” DeBoer said about Williams. “I think, like he said, his growth is really, you know, he’s not surprising anyone they known for now, probably midway through last season, what he’s all about and what he’s capable of, and he’s finding different ways to impact the game at different times.”

Since dropping its opening game of the season to Florida State, No. 4 Alabama has won eight consecutive games. Four of those eight wins have come against ranked conference opponents (No. 5 Georgia, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 14 Missouri, and No. 16 Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide could earn their fifth ranked SEC victory this weekend at home against No. 11 Oklahoma.

“We don’t take it for granted. We don’t take it lightly at all. You know, playing at home is honestly a blessing. Just because you know, you have your fans supporting you at a high level,” Williams said. “Need our fans do a great job of bringing the juice every weekend, and we need it this weekend.”

This weekend’s game marks a rematch of the first meeting of Alabama and Oklahoma as conference opponents last season, where the Sooners won 24-3 in Norman. Williams was held to just 37 receiving yards in the loss.

Kick-off for Saturday’s matchup is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET. The game can be seen on ABC.
