Texas State RHP transfer Matthew Tippie commits to Alabama

Former Texas State right-handed pitcher Matthew Tippie has committed to Alabama out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on social media. Tippie spent two seasons with the Bobcats.

This past season, the Bobcats turned to Tippie on the mound 26 times which were all in relief efforts. He pitched 46.0 innings, finishing the year with a 2-2 record with one save. He pitched to a 4.11 ERA with a 1.196 WHIP, having given up 29 runs on 34 hits across 196 batters faced. Tippie striked out 73 batters in in 2025.

Tippie was recently announced as a top 500 prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft. However, he has one season eligibility remaining at the collegiate level. If he opts out of any pro deal he receives, he’ll be on the mound for the Crimson Tide next spring.

At the time Tippie entered the transfer portal, he took to social media to post some of his highlights, including his up to date averages. That includes a fastball, curveball and a splitter among his best pitches.

Through two season, Tippie finished with a 4-3 record to go with a 4.54 ERA. He totaled 44 appearances with 67.1 innings of work. He’s logged 100 career strikeouts at the collegiate level. Opposing hitters batter .209 on average against Tippie’s stuff as well.

He will be joining an Alabama baseball team which finished the 2025 season 41-18 overall, including a 16-14 record against SEC competition. Unfortunately for the Crimson Tide, they lost the final three games of their season, which included a loss to Tennessee in the SEC Tournament, and losing in straight games in the Hattiesburg Regional last weekend.

Tippie is the first player to commit to the Crimson Tide baseball program since their season concluded. He’ll look to provide a consistent arm to the Alabama pitching rotation as they look to improve on what they accomplished during the 2025 season.
