The 2022 NFL Draft is one where the top of the draft could be dominated by the trenches — offensive lineman and pass rushers leading the selections. Still, ESPN’s Todd McShay is putting NFL teams on notice when it comes to Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams.

After transferring to Alabama from Ohio State, Williams has been setting the field on fire. On Tuesday’s SportsCenter NFL Draft Special, McShay revealed a lofty prediction for Williams.

“If there’s going to be an offensive skill player that cracks the top-five, it’s going to be Jameson Williams,” McShay said. “He was an Ohio State transfer. One-year player at Alabama. He comes in and he’s an absolute burner on tape. He’s average 21.3 yards per catch.”

Speed kills — and in Williams’ case, it could get him into the top five. Additionally, McShay mentions the Alabama wide receiver’s special teams ability as a plus.

“He’s also great in the kick return game,” added McShay. “He’s averaged 34-plus yards per kickoff return with two touchdowns. Did you watch him as a gunner? I don’t know if you’re going to use him, an early first round pick as a gunner, but this guy just gets after it. You just love his competitiveness and the way he plays the game and you can’t replace that top-end speed that he has.

“That’s why I think he has a chance. If any offensive skill player is going to crack the top-five, it would be Jameson Williams from Alabama.”

If Williams is able to crack the top five, he would be drafted higher than recent Alabama first round wide receivers Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy. However, NFL offenses value the insane speed Jameson Williams brings — he’d be a tremendous asset wherever he ends up.

More on Jameson Williams

Jameson Williams has been a revelation for the Crimson Tide in 2021. As Bryce Young won the Heisman Trophy last weekend, Williams helped catapult the young quarterback to New York.

In his first season in Tuscaloosa, Williams was a complete game-changer. The speedster put up silly numbers — hauling in 68 passes for 1,445 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. Moreover, his clutch gene has been on full display — accumulating seven receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia.

With the rise of players like Tyreek Hill with the Kansas City Chiefs, each team is looking for the next wide receiver with game-breaking speed. As Williams looks for a fit at the next level, no shortage of teams will be interested in attempting to draft the Alabama star.

Still, Jameson Williams has his eyes on the College Football Playoff before all that. When his time rolls around, Williams will be a hot commodity in the 2022 NFL Draft.
