Greg McElroy has an idea of who will be the next Alabama defensive coordinator: Travaris Robinson of Georgia.

Robinson was just named the Georgia co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach after spending the last two years at Alabama. It’d be a quick flip for Robinson, who served as the Alabama cornerbacks coach under Nick Saban.

But McElroy predicted Robinson will come right back as the DC under new coach Kalen DeBoer.

“Well, T-Rob is probably going to be the defensive coordinator,” McElroy said on his show with Cole Cubelic. “We can get into later but T-Rob, basically ran the defense last year … By the way. I mean, T-Rob could probably use an extra set of experienced eyes. You get DJ Durkin in there too, that makes everybody better … ”

Again, it’s just a prediction and it’s quite the flip if it happens. Basically, Robinson would drop the “co” title and become the leader of Alabama’s defense.

Robinson was hired to replace Will Muschamp, who is moving into an analyst role at Georgia.

“We are excited about the addition of Coach Robinson and his family to the University of Georgia, while having the opportunity to retain Coach Muschamp and his family on our staff,” head coach Kirby Smart said in the statement, per DawgsHQ.

Robinson has coached all over the SEC, spending time at Florida, Auburn, South Carolina and most recently Alabama. Robinson also coached at Texas Tech and Miami.

Robinson spent two seasons at Alabama, helping the Crimson Tide win the SEC and reach the College Football Playoff this past season. He is known as an excellent recruiter.

As of now, he will try to help Georgia win its third national title in four seasons in 2024. The Bulldogs are expected to once again have one of the best teams in the nation this coming season.

DeBoer previously said that his Alabama staff will have a touch of Washington but definitely needed SEC ties. How about bringing Robinson back?

“Certainly have a strong feeling of what I’d like to do. … There will be a touch of Washington in there, but I understand there needs to be some SEC ties, some southeast ties that can help bridge the gap,” DeBoer said, via BOL’s Charlie Potter.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne confirmed he and DeBoer had conversations about the staff, but he’ll ultimately leave it up to the coach. He also didn’t rule out keeping some of the current staffers in place, although again, it’s DeBoer’s call.
