Will Reichard discusses becoming Alabama’s all-time leading scorer

Alabama kicker Will Reichard has carved out a place in Crimson Tide history during his four years in Tuscaloosa. This season, Reichard surpassed former Alabama kicker Leigh Tiffin to become the program’s all-time leading scorer.
A senior, Reichard has scored 410 points so far and has the opportunity to add to that total if he uses his COVID year to return for a fifth season in 2023. In a Tuesday press conference ahead of the Iron Bowl this weekend, Reichard reflected on what it means to finally achieve one of the goals he had for himself when he arrived as a freshman in 2019.
“It definitely means a lot,” he said. “Definitely a goal I had coming in. But it’s not just a testament to me. There’s a lot of guys who helped me out. It’s not just an accolade for me, it’s an accolade for everyone that’s ever snapped or held for me. Thomas Fletcher kind of started it off with Tua (Tagovailoa) and Mac (Jones, then we’ve had a bunch of guys that’s held for me since I’ve been here. Paul (Tyson) and James (Burnip), Charlie Scott for a little bit. So, they did an outstanding job making my job easier and everyone that’s ever blocked for me. Big testament to them as well. They’ve done a fantastic job.”

The No. 1 kicker in the 2019 class according to On3 Consensus, Will Reichard immediately stepped in as a starter during his first season at Alabama. However, he played in only five games that season as he struggled with injuries, finishing 4-of-7 on his field goals and 21-of-22 on PATs. He returned healthy the following season to go a perfect 14-of-14 on his field goals and 84-of-84 on PATs to become a finalist for the Lou Groza Award.

Overall in his career, Reichard is 61-of-74 (82.4%) on his field goals and 227-of-229 on PATs. His 61 field goals rank him fourth in Crimson Tide history, and he is 23 more away from surpassing Tiffin for the lead.
Reichard will hope to create some more separation between himself and others on the all-time scoring list when Alabama kicks off against Auburn at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
