Through the final stretch of Alabama‘s season, Kalen DeBoer has quietly heard his name pop up in coaching rumors. Mainly at Penn State, which is still looking for somebody to replace James Franklin. Some have speculated that DeBoer would be interested but to this point, nothing has materialized.

If DeBoer is the best source to get to the bottom of the rumors, his wife is a close second. And Yea Alabama Director of Content Aaron Suttles recently sat down with Nicole DeBoer, one of her first interviews since coming to Tuscaloosa. While the full segment has not been released, Suttles hinted against the DeBoer family moving anytime soon.

“We just sat down with Nicole DeBoer yesterday,” Suttles said. “About a 45-minute interview. She’s not done any media since she’s gotten to Alabama. So, all these whispers I’m hearing about Penn State and everybody speculating about Penn State. She just sat down with Yea Alabama. I don’t know that they’re going anywhere.”

Kalen DeBoer is getting ready to coach Alabama on Saturday in the SEC Championship game. A rematch against the Georgia Bulldogs is coming, with the Crimson Tide winning in Athens back in September. Earning another win would put them automatically into the College Football Playoff. We could even see the committee bump Alabama into the top four for a first-round bye as well.

Year Two is proving to be a lot more successful. Rocky results in 2024 were produced by DeBoer, finishing the regular season 9-3. A bowl loss to Michigan only added fuel to a fire after replacing the legendary Nick Saban. Dropping another one to Florida State to open 2025 stoked it even more before putting together a strong campaign.

Making the College Football Playoff would check off one of DeBoer’s goals. From there, competing for a national championship is available — something people in Tuscaloosa expect to be doing on an annual basis. If there was any animosity for DeBoer, making a run in the 12-team field would completely eliminate the outside noise.

As for Penn State, there is no direct link between the Nittany Lions and DeBoer. He has never been an assistant there or coached in the Northeast. Most of DeBoer’s career took place on the West Coast or the Midwest. After all, plenty of people heavily discussed the difficult transition he was making to an SEC lifestyle after leaving Seattle in January 2024.
