2025 College World Series: Arkansas bench runs to console Charles Davalan, Wehiwa Aloy after heartbreaking ending

Arkansas‘ 2025 college baseball season ended in heartbreaking fashion in Omaha at the College World Series on Wednesday. Entering the bottom of the ninth inning leading LSU by two runs, the Tigers would score three runs for a 6-5 walk-off victory over the Razorbacks.
The immediate reaction from the team’s dugout was to console those who were on the field playing defense during the final stretch. Specifically, the team came to the aid of Charles Davalan and Wehiwa Aloy, who were both in position to give Arkansas the win at the end of the game but came up just short in their attempts.
“Those are the tough ones to watch with college kids. I thought that Arkansas’ reaction to [Charles] Davalan, they all ran out there in left field. I don’t know if you could see it. Wehiwa Aloy at shortstop. It was an incredible night but I feel for the Arkansas kids,” ESPN’s Kyle Peterson, who called the game, told Scott Van Pelt following the finish.
Aloy fielded a ground ball from LSU’s Steven Milam with one out. With runners on first and second base, Milam opted to throw out the runner heading to third instead of turning a double play to first and second. This kept the game alive — the start of a frustrating final stretch for the Razorbacks.
After Aloy’s decision, the game continued. And the worst was yet to come.
Down to its final out, LSU brought Luis Hernandez to the plate with two runners on base. Hernandez belted a line drive to right field that hit Davalan right in the glove. On a play that also would have ended to game — Davalan was unable to come up with the catch.

The mishap tied the game before LSU’s Jared Jones came up to bat to finish off the Razorbacks. Jones hit a single over the Razorbacks infield, bringing Hernandez home as the winning run.
It was the second time the Tigers defeated the Razorbacks in Omaha. The two teams matched up in each other’s College World Series opener over the weekend. LSU defeated Arkansas 4-1 after the Razorbacks were held scoreless through five innings.
It’s clear from the Arkansas dugout’s reaction how close this team was this season. Dave Van Horn alluded to this when he teared up after the Razorbacks punched their ticket to Omaha last week, and they proved their coach right with their postgame actions.
