Arkansas will open its season tomorrow afternoon against Alabama A&M at Razorback Stadium. With that, Sam Pittman noted three players for the ‘Hogs who will have varying statuses for Saturday.

Pittman mentioned that trio during a press conference earlier this week. That started with David Oke, the transfer, who was a Top 150 defensive lineman in the portal per On3, from Abilene Christian, who will be out for the opener, which was their expectation, especially as he didn’t make their depth chart this week, after a knee injury he suffered in their second scrimmage of fall camp two weeks ago.

“Yeah, David Oke is going to be – he won’t play this week,” Pittman said.

Then, on a much more positive note, Xavian Sorey Jr., the fifth-year quality linebacker in his second season with the team, is expected to be back in time for the opener following a hamstring issue coming out of the preseason. That’s with him being their leading returner on defense after posting 99 tackles, a pair of sacks, and an interception.

“Sorey, we believe, will practice today and will be ready for Saturday,” Pittman said.

Finally, back on the negative side, Antonio Jordan, the former three-star freshman at wide receiver who didn’t make any appearances last season, is unlikely to play this weekend. That’s after recently suffering a high ankle sprain that’ll affect his availability early on.

“Antonio Jordan had a high ankle sprain, so he would be doubtful for Saturday,” Pittman said.

Beyond those names, Arkansas comes out of the preseason and into the season fairly healthy. The Razorbacks will hope to continue that trend after what they expect to be an opening win tomorrow against Fayetteville.

“Other than that, I think the guys that we’ve had will be ready to go,” Pittman said.
