Arkansas institutes new policy on storming field ahead of 2025, amid SEC change

Arkansas has instituted a new “field rushing” policy heading into the 2025 season. This comes months after the Southeastern Conference increased the fine to $500k per field rush this season. The previous model invoked a $100k fine for the first offense, a $250k for the second offense and a $500k fine for the third offense.

Three minutes will be placed on the videoboards inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium following a big win to delay the field rush and allow the visiting team, staff and officials to exit the field. At the conclusion of the three minutes, fans will be allowed down to the field to celebrate.

Arkansas last rushed the field following last season’s 19-14 upset victory over No. 4 Tennessee on Oct. 5.

“The safety of our student-athletes and the student-athletes from the visiting institution is extremely important to all of us,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said via press release. “By implementing this new policy we are allowing the visiting team to clear the field so our fans can safely join our team on the field to celebrate the big win. We look forward to our fans and students complying with this policy the first time we get to implement it so we can all enjoy a huge win.”

Arkansas is the first (but likely not the last) team to implement the three minute clock to encourage clearing the playing surface before rushing the field. This seems to be a win-win for both sides, as the opposing teams players/coaching staff/fans have ample time to clear the field/stadium and the fans can safely rush the field without any animosity from the other fanbase leaking onto the field.

“The motivation was ‘field rushing is field rushing, the first time or the 18th time,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said back in May. “The random nature of, if you’re the one getting rushed, it doesn’t feel good. It might be the first time (it happened) there, but it might be your sixth time in a row, literally.”

The Razorbacks open the 2025 season on Aug. 30 at home against Alabama A&M. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:15 PM on SEC Network.
