Fresh off a run to the College World Series, Arkansas continues to strike gold in the NCAA transfer portal. The latest commitment came on Thursday afternoon, landing former Texas Tech infielder TJ Pompey. Someone who did not get too much action during the 2025 season in Lubbock, the Razorbacks are hoping to uncork the potential they believe Pomey holds.

“NEW COMMIT: @RazorbackBSB has landed former Texas Tech infielder TJ Pompey out of the Portal,” D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers said via X. “Pompey finished the 2025 campaign with a .348 average and five homers, along with a 1.021 OPS in limited action. Pompey hit 10 homers as a Fr.”

Pompey wound up spending two seasons with Texas Tech, signing with the Red Raiders coming out of high school. Rogers mentioned some of his stats but in total, Pomey hit .297 in 259 at-bats, hitting 15 home runs, driving in 64 RBIs, and finishing with an OPS of .935. However, most of the production came as a true freshman in 2024.

Injuries were what hampered Pompey throughout this past season. Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock never exactly revealed the issue. However, at times, Pompey was viewed in the dugout with a brace on his right wrist. March 30 was the last time Pompey wound up playing for Texas Tech, missing a couple of months.

The goal for Pompey will be to first get back to full strength. Once healthy, there is a lot of potential playing for Arkansas. Head coach Dave Van Horn continually puts together great rosters, ones ready to make deep runs in the SEC and NCAA Tournament. Adding a player with proven power conference stats will only make the job easier heading into the 2026 season.

Arkansas looking to reload, repeat trip to College World Series

For the second time in four years, Arkansas made its way to Omaha. One of the more accomplished programs in recent times, one thing still eludes them — a national championship. Arkansas got oh so close in 2018, losing the CWS championship series to Oregon State.

This go-round saw them fall short of getting into the final two. But at the very least, a positive step in the right direction. Sometimes, you just need to make the trip to Omaha in order to find yourself as a national championship. After all, it’s baseball — anything can happen.

Arkansas will now enter 2026 looking for back-to-back College World Series appearances for the first time since 2018 and 2019. A tough task for Van Horn’s group but based on the way the portal recruiting is going, they might wind up one of the favorites to get there.
