Ball State shortstop Dylan Grego has committed to Arkansas via the NCAA Transfer Portal, he announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon. Grego earned First Team All-MAC and All-MAC Defensive Team honors this season, along with being named a Third Team All-American (ABCA).

The Kansas City, MO native started 58 games for Ball State this season, hitting for a .376 batting average with 14 doubles, 14 home runs, 55 RBI, 15 stolen bases, a .624 SLG% and a .429 OBP%.

Grego becomes Arkansas‘ fifth portal add, joining McLennan (JUCO) stars right-handed pitcher Isaac Godard and infielder Sherman Johnson II (formerly at Dallas Baptist), former Vanderbilt left-handed pitcher Ethan McElvain and former Little Rock right-handed pitcher Jackson Wells.

Arkansas Transfer Portal additions:

  • RHP Isaac Godard (McLennan)
  • SS Dylan Grego (Ball State)
  • INF Sherman Johnson II (McLennan)
  • LHP Ethan McElvain (Vanderbilt)
  • RHP Jackson Wells (Little Rock)

Grego spent three seasons at Ball State, hitting for a career .320 average with 26 doubles, 22 home runs, 55 RBI, a .624 SLG% and a .429 OBP. Although he was solid in 2023 and 2024, 2025 was the breakout year for Grego. He finished with the third-most hits in a single season in program history (91), had the program’s first nine-RBI performance since 2017 (4/18/25 vs. Bowling Green) and had 30 multi-hit games.

He hit for a .462 (6-13) average in the MAC Tournament with a double, a home run and three RBI, earning a selection on the 2025 MAC All-Tournament Team.

The 2025 season for Arkansas was a major bounce back from the previous two seasons, in which it lost in back-to-back Fayetteville Regionals. The Razorbacks advanced to Omaha as the highest remaining National Seed (No. 3), taking down Murray State (via a no-hitter) and UCLA. They however lost both matchups to eventual National Champions LSU, ending their season.

This season’s Razorback team was forged from the portal, as key players Golden Spikes Award winning shortstop Wehiwa Aloy(Sacramento State), left-handed pitcher Zach Root (East Carolina), outfielder Logan Maxwell (TCU), outfielder Charles Davalan (Florida Gulf Coast), first baseman Cam Kozeal (Vanderbilt) and right-handed pitcher Aiden Jimenez (Oregon State) made their way to Arkansas from other Division I programs.
