Bri Ellis only needed one swing on Wednesday to win Arkansas an SEC Tournament game against Georgia on Wednesday. She did not in the grandest of fashions, hitting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Razorback dugout was then sent into a frenzy.

A tight contest was taking place throughout, entering the bottom half of the final frame tied at one apiece. Georgia pitcher Randi Roelling was nearly lights out then, entering the seventh with just two hits and one earned run allowed. Unfortunately, the scoreline does not look as pretty afterward.

“Ellis, swings away,” play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown said after contact was made. “Deep left field. Her first swing is as grand as it gets! That’s why they didn’t pitch to her the first three times. They had to pitch to her now. And Arkansas walks it off on a grand slam from the nation’s best hitter.”

To make matters even worse for Georgia, the moment came in front of their home fans. Athens is the city hosting the SEC Tournament, potentially giving the Bulldogs home-field advantage throughout. Unfortunately, their time is now up and they will have to watch the rest from the stands.

Arkansas is still alive, though. Coming in as the No. 5 seed, next up will be a quarterfinals game against the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers. Three more wins are required before becoming SEC Tournament Champions, something the Razorbacks have done just once in their history — coming in 2022.

If Tennessee were smart, it would attempt to avoid Ellis at all costs as well. Georgia just had no option with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Ellis made sure to make them pay, having the scoreline look a lot wider than the game itself. A great moment for the Arkansas program in Athens.

There is a good reason Georgia was attempting to avoid Ellis. She is hitting a ridiculous.487 coming into Wednesday with an on-base percentage of .659. And the slug is just as eye-popping, sitting at 1.221 for an overall OPS of 1.88.

Ellis had 25 home runs and 68 RBIs during the regular season. Another bomb and four more RBIs can now be added to the stat sheet. But maybe the most impressive is her strikeout-to-walk ratio, getting fanned 13 times compared to 56 free bases.
