On Monday, Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood held down the mound for all nine innings of the Razorbacks’ 3-0 win over Murray State in the Men’s College World Series. Moreover, he threw only the third no-hitter in CWS history and a record 19 strikeouts in a nine-inning game.

Many players would hardly be able to move their arm after such an outing. Alas, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Wood hinted that he might take the mound again at the CWS.

“Considering it was 119 [pitches] yesterday, I’m pretty stiff,” Wood said. “That was the most pitches I’ve thrown in my college career, topping couple weeks ago, it was 89. So I’m a little sore today but we’ll see how we get going later on in the week and we’ll see how big adrenaline plays in, but if there’s a moment where I can go in there and get the job done, I’m not going to not let them put me in.”

Wood was unbelievable for the Razorbacks, posting a perfect game against the Racers until he hit a batter in the bottom of the eighth inning. The walk was Murray State’s only time getting on-base during the game.

As astounding as Wood’s performance was, it wasn’t a complete surprise either. The standout junior boasts a 3.82 ERA this season, along with 69 strikeouts compared to just 11 walks.

He is considered one of the best pitchers in the country and is ranked the No. 50 MLB prospect in the upcoming draft class. While on The Pat McAfee Show, Wood also revealed how he prepares to put on such dominant performances.

“I don’t listen to any music,” Wood said. “I really just get up. I make sure that I put the right stuff in my body. I don’t eat a whole lot of sugar or anything. No fried stuff at least five days before the start. I just make sure I got the right electrolytes, nutrition and everything. It’s really just in my mind, knowing that I can do it and just go out there and get the job done.”

Up next, Arkansas will play the loser of the LSUUCLA game. After suffering a loss against LSU earlier in the CWS, Arkansas can’t afford another loss. Of course, it’s easier for the Razorbacks to enter any game knowing they have Gage Wood by their side.
