Damari Alston injury update: Hugh Freeze reveals status of Auburn RB for South Alabama game

Auburn RB Damari Alston missed their second game this past weekend due to shoulder injury he suffered in their opener. He’s now questionable again for this upcoming weekend’s game pending how his shoulder feels this week during practice.
During his press conference on Monday, Hugh Freeze shared the latest on where Alston is. He noted him as a game-time decision for their next game against South Alabama, with the Tigers wanting to see how his shoulder reacts to hits going into their final matchup before conference play begins.
“Damari? It will probably be a game-time decision,” said Freeze.
“I know he’s going to try. I mean, he’s trying. He went through walkthroughs this morning. But, you know, until you put the pads on and take a hit on it or something, I’m not sure exactly how he feels. So, he’ll be a game-time decision.”
If he were to miss his second straight, Auburn would now be down two backs through two games. That’s with Freeze revealing in the same answer that RB Durell Robinson, a reserve back who transferred in this offseason, had a sudden procedure on a collection of blood in his thigh that will sideline him for a period of time coming up.
Alston was very productive as the starting back in the 38-24 win for Auburn to open the season at Baylor. He posted 16 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, with the carries being the most and yardage being the second-most of his career with the Tigers. The run game was a huge emphasis that night in Waco, with it only continuing in week two with RB Jeremiah Cobb up to 27 carries for 195 yards and three touchdowns coming off a career game this past weekend while QB Jackson Arnold is up to 25 carries on the season but with essentially all of his production on the ground coming in that first game against the Bears.

It remains to be seen this week if Alston will sit out another game in order to be as healthy as he can be for their conference opener next weekend at Oklahoma. Still, Freeze says Alston is trying to get himself to a point where he could give it a go, as we’ll find out later in the week if he ends up there.
Durell Robinson injury update: Hugh Freeze reveals Auburn RB will miss time after being rushed to hospital
The Tigers are now down another back early on in Durell Robinson due to a health matter they didn’t see coming out of their second game. That’s with Freeze revealing that Robinson, sometime the day after their win on Saturday, realized he had a significant collection of blood that had pooled on the inside of his leg. The Tigers then sent him to the hospital to get it worked on, with a procedure done on it that’s going to keep him off the field for a bit of time here this season.
“Unfortunately, we lost Durell for a period of time to a freak injury. He didn’t even really know he was hurt after the game,” Freeze said. “Sunday morning, he had a collection of blood, like I have never seen in all my years coaching, on his thigh. And we had to kind of rush him to Birmingham to open that up and get the blood off of his leg, and they had to do a pretty good incision on it.”
“So, he’s going to be out for a while.”
