Durell Robinson injury update: Hugh Freeze reveals Auburn RB will miss time after being rushed to hospital

Auburn was already down one running back for a bit early in this season due to an injury. The Tigers are now down another in Durell Robinson for a time due to a health matter they didn’t see coming out of their second game.
Hugh Freeze provided the update on Robinson during his press conference on Monday. He said, sometime the day after their win on Saturday, Robinson realized he had a significant collection of blood that had pooled on the inside of his leg. With that, the Tigers sent him to the hospital to get it worked on, with a procedure done on it that’s going to keep him off the field for a bit of time here this season.
“Unfortunately, we lost Durell for a period of time to a freak injury. He didn’t even really know he was hurt after the game,” Freeze said. “Sunday morning, he had a collection of blood, like I have never seen in all my years coaching, on his thigh. And we had to kind of rush him to Birmingham to open that up and get the blood off of his leg, and they had to do a pretty good incision on it.
“So, he’s going to be out for a while.”
Robinson, a redshirt sophomore, is in his first year with Auburn after transferring in following stops at UConn and Charlotte, with him being one of the top running backs in the portal during this offseason’s cycles per On3 coming off his lone year with the Huskies. He now, in 18 career games, has posted 150 carries for 954 yards and 10 touchdowns, with most of that coming last season while with Connecticut.
Robinson had appeared in each of the two games this season as a reserve back for the Tigers. He had one carry for three yards in the opener at Baylor before having two carries, with one going for the final score of the night when he got all his yardage on a 54-yard touchdown rush, against Ball State.
Part of that opportunity this past weekend came due to the status of Damari Alston, who was out with a shoulder injury he picked up in the opener. With him out, Jeremiah Cobb led the way in that backfield in a career-best night for him with 121 yards and two touchdowns. Freeze noted Alston as a game-time decision for their next game this weekend against South Alabama in the same answer where he spoke about Robinson.

Considering he didn’t even know he was hurt, this sounds like a very freak health matter for Robinson. That’ll now cost Robinson, who had a flash or two over their first two games, a portion of this season as he recovers from the surgery he wasn’t expecting to have.
Damari Alston injury update: Hugh Freeze reveals status of Auburn RB for South Alabama game
Auburn RB Damari Alston missed their second game this past weekend due to shoulder injury he suffered in their opener. He’s now questionable again for this upcoming weekend’s game pending how his shoulder feels this week during practice, with Hugh Freeze noting him as a game-time decision until the Tigers see how his shoulder reacts to hits going into their final matchup before conference play begins.
“Damari? It will probably be a game-time decision,” said Freeze.
“I know he’s going to try. I mean, he’s trying. He went through walkthroughs this morning. But, you know, until you put the pads on and take a hit on it or something, I’m not sure exactly how he feels. So, he’ll be a game-time decision.”
Alston was very productive as the starting back in the 38-24 win for Auburn to open the season at Baylor. He posted 16 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, with the carries being the most and yardage being the second-most of his career with the Tigers.
