The Auburn Tigers took a hit to their depth at wide receiver in practice going into the Texas A&M game when Horatio Fields suffered a broken foot that required surgery. Now, head coach Hugh Freeze has shared the latest on the Tigers’ wide receiver.

Unfortunately, Fields is going to be out for the upcoming game against Georgia. Not just that, but he won’t be available for six to eight weeks, and even then, there are still some questions that he needs to figure out before he gets back on the field.

“Yeah, I was told six to eight weeks on him,” Hugh Freeze said. “So, I guess we’re on like Week 2 now. I never know exactly what that means. I don’t know — you’ve got that time frame and then the time frame after that for him to actually get back going and feel good enough to cut and play at receiver. If you’re an offensive lineman, it might be a little quicker, but when you’re running and have to make cuts, you’re never quite sure exactly what that timeline looks like.”

Horatio Fields came to Auburn as a transfer from Wake Forest, where he had previously been a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021. Since getting to the Tigers, he’s been able to play in four games and made a nice addition, snagging 12 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.

Currently, Horatio Fields is third on Auburn in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Ahead of him are Eric Singleton Jr. and Cam Coleman. Singleton has 27 receptions for 265 yards and two scores, while Coleman has 17 receptions for 255 yards and two scores of his own. Just behind Fields statistically is Malcolm Simmons. He has 11 receptions for 100 yards. Luckily, Hugh Freeze shared that beyond Fields, the Tigers are generally healthy.

“Other than him,” Freeze said. “Feeling good at this point that everybody else is available.”

As a team, Auburn is ranked 114th nationally in passing offense, averaging just 173.2 passing yards per game. That’s good for 15th in the SEC as well. It’s also contributed to a scoring offense that’s just 77th nationally, averaging 27.6 points per game. That mark amounts to 12th in the SEC at this point in the season.

Auburn is going to be tested this week. The Tigers will host the Georgia Bulldogs in a battle against the No. 10 team in the current AP Poll.
