Baylor defensive tackle DK Kalu plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Baylor redshirt sophomore defensive tackle DK Kalu plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Pete Nakos reported the news on Friday.
Across two seasons in Waco, Kalu has recorded 11 tackles across seven career games. He is the son of former NFL defensive lineman N.D. Kalu, who played 11 seasons across the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, and Houston Texans organizations.
The Missouri City, Tex., native was the No. 684 overall prospect and No. 73 DL in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 108-ranked player in Texas and committed to Baylor over programs such as Georgia Tech, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, SMU, and TCU.
During Kalu’s time at Baylor, the Bears posted a 13-12 record with a 44-31 loss in the 2024 Texas Bowl to LSU. The program has been in flux since it won the Big 12 Championship in 2021 and finished ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll. Since that dream season, however, the Bears are just 22-28 across four seasons under head coach Dave Aranda. Baylor has finished above .500 in just one of those four seasons.

Baylor hires DC
Following the season, Baylor made a change in defensive coordinator. On Thursday, the Bears announced the hiring of Joe Klanderman. Baylor should be familiar with Klanderman, as he has been on Kansas State’s coaching staff since 2019, but was not retained in the coaching transition from Chris Klieman to Collin Klein.
“It is an honor to join the Baylor Family and work with Coach Aranda and the entire staff,” Klanderman said in the release. “I’m thrilled to work with our student-athletes and build a defense that represents the things we take pride in, physicality, relentless effort and discipline. My family and I are excited to join Dave’s staff and are eager to get started in Waco.”
