Robert Griffin III is tired with the current state of Baylor football. The former Bears QB indicated as much with a meme posted to his X account on Saturday after Baylor suffered a 41-17 loss against Arizona on Saturday.

The loss marked the second straight for the Bears as well as their fourth in the past five games. They dropped below .500 to 5-6 on the season and now must win their final games against Houston just to become bowl eligible.

Baylor actually held a 14-7 lead after the first quarter but saw its offense hit a wall for the rest of the game. The Bears were outscored 34-3 the rest of the way as they continued to fall further down the conference standings.

Since winning the Big 12 Championship during the 2021 season, Baylor is a mere 22-26 over the next four years. That has some fans growing restless under coach Dave Aranda, and it appears Griffin is among those.

Aranda will be back for the 2026 season, Baylor already announced. That in mind, the Bears will focus on closing out the year strong when they take on Houston next Saturday at McLane Stadium.

More on Baylor’s decision to bring back Dave Aranda

The decision was made public in a detailed statement from Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone. She emphasized stability, alignment with the university’s mission and long-term strategic priorities.

Livingstone said the university conducted a “comprehensive review” of the football program and its leadership, marked by “prayerful consideration” and direct conversations. Ultimately, Baylor chose continuity with Aranda.

“After careful evaluation and consideration, we have decided to retain Coach Dave Aranda as the leader of our football program,” Livingstone wrote. “We recognize this decision will generate strong opinions. … We are not complacent, and we are not settling for mediocrity.”

Moreover, she outlined three primary factors behind the decision — ensuring stability while Baylor searches for a new athletics director, protecting the current locker room and a highly ranked recruiting class and practicing responsible financial stewardship at a time when coaching turnover is skyrocketing nationwide.

Additionally, Aranda’s buyout, combined with looming changes tied to revenue-sharing and NIL restructuring, made an abrupt move increasingly difficult to justify, even as other programs throughout the nation go through similar situations.

Aranda’s tenure has produced both significant highs and steep lows. Hired in 2020 after helping LSU capture a national championship as Ed Orgeron’s defensive coordinator, Aranda guided Baylor to a 12-win season, a Big 12 title and a Sugar Bowl victory in 2021.
