Scott Drew praises Adam Flagler's toughness after he hits first-half buzzer-beater

Iowa State picked off Baylor in Waco last weekend and the two are facing off for a second straight time to open the Big 12 Tournament. While the Bears kept pace with the Cyclones in the first half, they had guards Adam Flagler and Dale Bonner exit the game with injuries when another guard, Langston Love, was already out with an eye injury.
Flagler appeared to twist his ankle and tried jogging it off near the bench. After a few minutes of sitting, he seemed alright and came back out for the final offensive possession, where he found the bottom of the from way beyond the arc to break a 38-38 tie at the first half horn.
Here was that shot right after Flagler came back in the game:
Following Flagler’s buzzer beater, ESPN caught up with Bears coach Scott Drew as he exited the court, asking him about the resiliency of his point guard to withstand a turned ankle and hit the huge shot before the break.
“He’s a guy that has great leadership, great poise, we have confidence in him, he’s a great leader. Most of all, he’s a great basketball player,” said Drew. He then emphasized his team needing to create more opportunities for themselves on the glass and with turnovers while doing the same on the defensive end.

“So I thought we got to take care of our turnovers. We got to do a better job on the boards. We do those two things and we’re going to be fine. I think our worst defense has been our turnovers that have led to points. And our second-worst has been our offensive rebounds we’re giving up to them. So, whatever defense, second shots we can’t let them get offensive rebounds.”
Hit the glass and take care of the ball says Scott Drew — a tale as old as time in college hoops. Whoever can do that better between these two teams ought to bring home the victory and advance to Friday’s round of the Big 12 Tournament.
