Scott Drew promotes Jerome Tang as National Coach of the Year candidate

In what has been an excellent season for both programs, Baylor head coach Scott Drew made it clear that he thinks that Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang should be a National Coach of the Year candidate.
After Baylor’s loss to Kansas State, Drew explained why he thinks this.
“First of all, Coach Tang should be National Coach of the Year, period,” Scott Drew said. “I mean, they had two players. They filled the whole roster. They were picked at the bottom. He’ll get my vote and that’s not because he’s my brother. He’s earned it.”
This is Jerome Tang’s first season at Kansas State. The Wildcats are currently ranked 14th after going just 14-17 and never being ranked for a week last season. It is, without a doubt, a remarkable turnaround.
For his own part, Scott Drew has coached Baylor for two decades now and in recent years the Bears have run like a well-oiled machine. In 2021, the Bears were national champions under Drew who is a three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Jerome Tang was an assistant at Baylor under Scott Drew from 2003 until 2022, giving the two an incredibly close connection and bond.

Seth Greenberg says Baylor is the biggest threat to Kansas
Defending national champions Kansas has stood at the top of the Big 12 during the regular season. Now, college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg explained why he thinks Baylor is their biggest threat.
“I think the team they just beat and that’s Baylor. They’ve got three guards that are as good as any players in the country. That’s the best backcourt in the country. They average 47 points a game, between those guards. Keyonte George will be a lottery pick, maybe the second college player drafted. You’re talking about Adam Flagler, big, high three-point shooter and then LJ Cryer. And then you also got this Texas team that’s right behind right now, Kansas,” Greenberg said.
“They have a tremendous staff and great experience. One of the oldest teams in college basketball. Terrific backcourt, and they got a guy that comes off the bench, Sir’Jabari Rice. Great shot maker. We forget over the last seven games, 17 points a game 50% from three. Marcus Carr, the transfer from Minnesota … he is a terrific closer … If they get play out of their frontcourt, Texas is another team in the Big 12, they can make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.”
