Yves Missi offers injury update on himself ahead of second round

The Baylor Bears‘ young and talented big Yves Missi was dealing with a lingering back injury. Those back issues limited him to just 16 minutes of action in the Bears’ dominant 92-67 victory over Colgate in the Round of 64.
The good thing is Baylor did not have to call on Missi to assist in dispatching Colgate. On the other hand, the seven-foot freshman will likely be critical in the Bears’ Round of 32 battle with the ACC’s Clemson Tigers. The Tigers are known for the play by their bigs on the inside, including first-team all-Acc team big P.J. Hall. So, just how is Missi feeling, and what is the likelihood he misses out on Baylor’s second-round throwdown, Well, straight from the horse’s mouth,
“I feel way better since yesterday. We’ve been working on my back. I had treatment, and I should be ready to go tomorrow,” said Missi on Saturday.
Missi was impactful in his limited action, scoring nine points and three rebounds in the game. The rest of Baylor’s staters made his night a whole lot easier. Every Bears stater finished with double digits in the scoring column, with forward Jalen Bridges leading the way in points with 23 in the game.

Clemson took care of business in their opening-round matchup against the New Mexico State Lobos. Hall had a quiet yet effective night with 14 points and three rebounds. New Mexico was a trendy pick to upset Clemon in the first round, but the Tigers didn’t get that memo as they won convincingly 77-56.
While it may not register too much to the players, this Big 12 – ACC tilt will have plenty of buzz surrounding it, given the comments from Clemson head coach Brad Brownell. Brownell questioned the strength of the Big 12 as a whole when it came to getting teams into the NCAA tournament. He did so by taking umbrage with how the programs from the rival conference manipulated the NET in order to get more teams into the field.
Given that Baylor is one of the top teams in the Big 12, a loss to Clemson in the Round of 32 could add some significant weight to Brownell’s comments from earlier in the season. It’s a good thing the Bears will likely have their young, talented big on Sunday to help control the paint.
