Clemson WR Antonio Williams missed the second game of the season yesterday as he dealt with a hamstring issue he suffered in the opener. The Tigers now won’t know his status for their third matchup, though, until this next week begins.

Dabo Swinney provided an update on Williams during his postgame press conference after No. 8 Clemson won 27-16 over Troy on Saturday. He said they won’t know more until they get an update at the start of this week, with the fourth-year receiver being day-to-day at this point.

“We’ll see. We’ll see where we are Monday,” Swinney said. “You know, just, it’s kind of a daily thing.”

Williams appeared in the season-opening loss to LSU, but did not record any statistics in the top-ten matchup against the Tigers. That’s after exiting in the opening quarter with the hamstring injury.

Williams was by far the leading receiver for Clemson last season. He caught 75 passes for 904 yards and 11 touchdowns, bringing him to 152 catches for 1,716 yards and 17 receiving touchdowns in his collegiate career.

Without him in the lineup, the Tigers nearly suffered an upset in the eleven-point comeback win against the Trojans. Their offense as a whole struggled in that one with just 316 yards and a pair of turnovers given up, with one interception and one fumble lost, as QB Cade Klubnik wasn’t fully his best again with 196 yards, a touchdown, and that pick-six on 75% completion. WR Bryant Wesco Jr. was their top receiver in that win with seven catches for 118 yards and a pair of touchdowns, which brings him to 11 receptions for 184 yards and those two scores overall through the two games.

Clemson will open conference play next weekend against Georgia Tech in Atlanta to open up in the ACC. It just remains to be seen if Williams, the Tigers’ top receiver, will be available for them in the game against the Yellow Jackets.

“You know, they’ll be in the training room tomorrow, and I’m sure they’ll kind of give me an update on Monday, you know, on where they are,” said Swinney.
