Bryant Wesco went through a scary moment during Saturday’s game vs. SMU. When returning a punt, Wesco got his feet taken out and wound up hitting his head on the ground. He got up and left the field but wound up not getting back into the game.

Afterward, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney revealed Wesco made his way to the hospital. Not much more information came from Swinney, as they continue to wait as well.

“I don’t have any information on Wesco,” Swinney said. “It was a pretty serious deal. We’ll just have to wait and see. Just really praying for him.”

Wesco entered the day as Clemson’s leading receiver, catching 31 passes for 537 yards and six touchdowns. In a season where not a lot has gone right for the Tigers, Wesco continually stood out. Unfortunately, not so much vs. SMU, not recording a catch.

They were always facing a difficult battle heading into the game due to the quarterback situation. Starter Cade Klubnik was ruled out, meaning Chris Vizzina took over. Vizzina is somebody who has waited their turn and appears to have a bright future. However, it was not enough to get the win.

“Been limited,” Swinney said on Klubnik heading into the game. “We’ve just been taking our time with him and, like I said yesterday, he’s gone from day-to-day to he’s hour-to-hour. Hopefully, by tomorrow, he’ll be minute-to-minute, but we’ll put out a report tomorrow night. First one, and we’ll keep going. Getting better. Literally getting better every hour. We’ve just been smart with him and he’s been able to do what he needed to do.”

Clemson fell under .500 due to the loss, sitting at 3-4 overall. The record is 2-3 inside ACC play, a conference Swinney has dominated throughout the years. But this season is going far from expected after many out there believed Clemson had a chance of winning the national championship.

At some point, Swinney will be able to provide an exact outlook on where Wesco’s injury stands. There is some time off before Clemson takes the field, a potential advantage in the situation. A bye week separates us from now and the Nov. 1 showdown against the Duke Blue Devils.

From there, two more ACC games will take place before closing out with two nonconference showdowns, both in-state. Furman comes to Memorial Stadium before heading to Williams-Brice Stadium for the South Carolina game.
