Clemson senior quarterback Cade Klubnik heads into the 2025 season as one of the most high-profile players in all of college football.

Just one week before the Tigers kick off their year against LSU however, a rumor began swirling around message boards on Aug. 24 regarding Klubnik’s health.

“My brother is a first responder near University and, well about 30 mins ago now, someone Tboned a car at an intersection and my brother told me that it is Kade Klubnik inside the car that got Tboned and he couldn’t move his arm and shoulder well when they got there,” the post read.

“He didn’t text me anything else. Luckily I saw it in time, I am 57 years old and don’t carry my phone a lot. He just told me bc I am a die hard fan and I am heartbroken and panicking at the moment. Hoping this isn’t a big thing but we will see. I asked him to send me more pictures of the wreck he said it looked pretty bad.”

The rumor however was quickly shut down by Klubnik’s mother Kim. “Thankfully, it is fake news,” she told CBS SportsChris Hummer shortly after the post began to circulate around social media. “Cade is fine!”

Klubnik laughs off the rumors on Wednesday

Clemson‘s starting quarterback addressed the false rumors during a media opportunity on Wednesday.

“Yeah, I was sitting at home hanging with my roommates and my mom calls me crying,” Klubnik said. “I was like, ‘what’s going on?’ She was tearing up trying to see if I was okay and I was like ‘yeah, I’m fine. What’s going on?’ She saw the post the person posted but that was the first thing I heard of it. And then calls and texts started coming in.”

“But man, you know. I don’t know who it was, but shame on them for the pain they put the people I love through. So, I’m not really interested in talking about it anymore. It was a messed up joke or whatever but I’m okay.”

He has led Clemson to a 19-8 record over the past two seasons with a win over Kentucky in the 2023 Gator Bowl, a win over SMU in the 2024 ACC Championship Game and an appearance in the 2024 College Football Playoff.

Klubnik, who was tabbed as college football analysts Phil Steele‘s pick for the Heisman Trophy, boasts 7,180 career passing yards with 57 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
