The Clemson Tigers took care of business over the weekend against Boston College. That game did come with a massive scare, though, when star quarterback Cade Klubnik went down with what appeared to be a lower-body injury and did not return.

After the game, head coach Dabo Swinney addressed the injury. Luckily, it appears as though it wasn’t a major issue and he could have returned if necessary. That’s, in turn, a good sign for his status moving forward.

“Just got rolled up,” Dabo Swinney said. “Yeah, he’s been kind of nursing a sore ankle anyway. You’ve probably seen it taped up. But he just kind of rolled up, rolled under. So he went in [to the tent], they untaped him, retaped him, and he was ready to go back in, but I said, ‘Let’s just see how [Christopher Vizzina] does right here.’ It’s good for CV to play. It was good for him to have to go in there and play. Got a good drive down the field.”

Clemson would go on to beat Boston College 41-10, so there was no real need for Klubnik to get back into the game. Instead, Swinney was able to rely on backup Vizzina to finish up the game while getting some valuable experience.

The Tigers are now turning their attention to SMU next week. That should prove to be a much tougher challenge for Clemson. Luckily, as of now, Swinney is confident Klubnik is going to be able to be on the field for that game.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Swinney said. “Like I said, he was trying to play tonight, but I’m sure he’ll be sore tomorrow. We’ll evaluate him, y’all will ask me every day how he’s doing, and I’ll say the same thing. But yeah, I don’t see anything at this point as to why he wouldn’t, but anything can happen, I guess.”

In six games this season, Cade Klubnik is completing 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,530 yards and 11 touchdowns to five interceptions. He’s also rushed for 104 yards and another two touchdowns on the ground this season.

With the win over Boston College, Clemson improved to 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in ACC play. Now sitting at seventh in ACC play, the Tigers are going to have an opportunity to make a move in the coming weeks to once again get competitive in the conference race. That includes an interesting stretch that begins next week at home against SMU.
