CLEMSON — What started off as such a promising season for the Clemson baseball team continues to head in the wrong direction.

The Tigers dropped Game 3 of their series with NC State by a score of 9-7 Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium as the Wolfpack claimed the series 2 games to 1.

Pitching let the Tigers down in Sunday’s series finale as NC State finished with 15 hits. Clemson pitchers also combined to walk six batters and hit a batter as well.

Clemson has now dropped its first three ACC series of the year. The Tigers are 18-9 (2-6) and have a series at No. 13 Notre Dame coming up next weekend.

Despite a tough day on the mound, the Tigers still had a chance to win the game late.

Clemson entered the ninth inning trailing 9-6 but cut the lead to 9-7 and had two runners in scoring position with a chance to tie the game with a single.

However, pinch hitter David Lewis struck out looking to end the game.

The loss drops Clemson to 4-9 in its past 13 games after the Tigers started the year 14-0.
