Will Shipley reveals favorite Dabo Swinney saying

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has one of the most lively personalities in college football and is never short for words. Over the years, Swinney has stacked up a library filled with a multitude iconic quotes that will likely stand the test of time for a while. From “Do common things in an uncommon way,” to “Don’t let anyone walk through your mind with dirty feet,”, a Dabo-ism can be heard at any given moment when Swinney is on the podium.
Clemson star running back Will Shipley was recently asked by ‘Next Up’ host Adam Breneman what his favorite Swinney quote of all time is, and helped guide Brenerman through one of his most iconic tongue twister quotes.
“Do what you can now so that when you cannot, you will not wish that you would have when you could have,” Shipley laughed and said. “Yeah, that’s one of my favorites.”
Swinney’s riddle of a one-liner is an all-time classic, but not Shipley’s favorite, as he revealed which Swinney saying resonates the most with him personally.
“But I think another one is invest your time, don’t spend it. That just goes to everything in life, are you just spending time trying to get through the days or are you investing your time and are you gonna see the return on that investment in the future,” Shipley said.
Whatever investments Shipley made before last season definitely paid off for him as he had a historical year for the Tigers. He earned the first-team all-conference honors in the running back, all-purpose, and specialist categories, becoming the first player in ACC history to do so. Between rushing, receiving, and returning, Shipley accumulated 1,748 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, and will be looking to build on that in 2023 behind the inspirational words of his head coach.
Will Shipley talks about Cade Klubnik’s leadership style
Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik will be making just his third collegiate start when the Tigers take on Duke in their season opener in December, but that hasn’t stopped him from leading. This spring marked a year since the highly touted high school prospect stepped foot on campus, and according to running back Will Shipley, the young QB has come into his own as a leader of the team.

“Oh, he’s special on and off the field,” Shipley said. “He’s a follower of Christ most importantly and you see that just by being around him, he just shines man. He’s a natural leader and he brings others along with him, which is what makes him such a good leader.”
Klubnik’s play spoke for itself last season when he was handed the reigns of the Tigers’ offense. He started the last two games of the season last year for Clemson, a tall task for a freshman quarterback making his first starts in a team’s conference championship and bowl game.
In those two games, Klubnik led the Tigers to an ACC title win but an Orange Bowl loss, throwing for 599 yards, rushing for 71, and scoring three total touchdowns. And while his play for his age has been impressive, his infectious leadership and energy may be even more.
“And he makes you feel good about yourself you know?” Shipley laughed and said to Next Up’s Adam Breneman. “And that’s a great thing to have about yourself is to not only bring others along, but put a smile on their face while doing it and that’s exactly what he does.”
