Clemson spring game date, kickoff time set

Details for the Clemson spring game have been released by ESPN.

The annual Orange and White spring game will kick off at 1 p.m. on April 15, it was announced on Monday. The exhibition will not be televised, but it can be streamed on ACCNX.

The full Clemson football schedule for the 2023 season, as well as schedules for every ACC team, will be released Monday night.

Clemson has yet to release spring practice dates, but the Tigers have typically started spring practice in early March.

This year’s spring game is later than most years. The Tigers held their 2022 spring game on April 9. In 2012 and 2018, the spring game was held on April 14.

This is an important spring for a Clemson team that finished 11-3 last year, failing to reach the College Football Playoff for a second consecutive season.

There is a national perception that the Clemson program is no longer elite after the Tigers finished with three losses each of the past two years. Clemson was ranked No. 13 in the final AP poll for 2022.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked what he would say to people who believe the Tigers program is slipping after Tennessee beat Clemson 31-14 in the Orange Bowl.

“I don’t really know what to say to them. We’re 11-3. Sure, I wish we were undefeated, but we’ve won the league seven out of the last eight years. I think that’s only happened one other time, and that was in the ’70s by Alabama,” Swinney said.

“We’ve been pretty consistent, and we’re going to continue to be consistent and keep trying to do everything we can to be undefeated around here. I think we won 11-plus games — in 1981 we won 12. I think we went 31 years before we won 11 games again at Clemson, and we did that in 2012, and I think we’ve done it eight times in the last 11 years. So I think we’ve been incredibly consistent.”

The Tigers will look to get back atop the college football world in 2023 for the third time under Swinney, who led the Tigers to national titles in 2016 and 2018.

Cade Klubnik will lead the way on offense after an up-and-down freshman season in limited playing time, while the Tigers should be loaded on defense with Tyler Davis, Ruke Orhorhoro and others returning.
