Dabo Swinney shares where Clemson's ball security stands

Through two weeks of the regular season, the Clemson Tigers offense has proven to be inconsistent. Head coach Dabo Swinney saw the Tigers fall to Duke after only scoring seven points before returning home to blow out an overmatched FCS team. However, through both games, turnovers remained a key problem for the offense.
To try and address the turnover problems that Clemson has had this season, Swinney had put a focus on fixing them in practice.
“Been good. Done a lot of drill work and then just tried to create a lot of strain in practice in our normal periods and guys have practiced well, really,” Dabo Swinney said. “Honestly, we do that every single week.”
The Tigers threw an interception and lost a fumble in the win over Charleston Southern. However, it was on the road in ACC play against Duke when turnover haunted Clemson. Three turnovers in the game all but sealed the win for Duke, stopping otherwise successful drives for Clemson and giving the Blue Devils momentum.
Those five turnovers in two games are tied for 108th nationally, and while Clemson does have a good defense, turnovers are a great way to put that unit in a position to fail.
While a lot of turnovers fall on the shoulders of quarterback Cade Klubnik, Dabo Swinney praised his performance outside of a handful of plays.
“[Cade’s] been really good outside of about five plays, really good. Those five plays have been bad. He’s been really, really good. I mean we were at 80% completion the other day on 40-something passes with all the quarterbacks. He was 67-68% or whatever. He’s been really good, really, really good,” Swinney said.

“[Cade’s] got a great understanding. He’s just had a couple of plays that he wishes he could get back. But you don’t get them back so they’re just good learning, teaching opportunities for a young starter. He’s just going to get better and better and better.”
Clemson QB Cade Klubnik calls Week 2 interception the worst play of his life
Early in Clemson’s Week 2 win over Charleston Southern, quarterback Cade Klubnik threw a terrible interception that left fans wondering what they’d seen. Even Klubnik was surprised by the interception, later calling it the worst he had thrown in his entire life.
“That interception was probably the worst play I’ve ever had at quarterback in my whole life,” Klubnik said. “So just flushing it and just realizing that’s not who I am, just getting back to who I am.”
In the end, Klubnik and the Clemson offense got things going to beat Charleston Southern 66-17, earning their first win of the season.
