<a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/clemson-tigers/">Clemson</a>‘s 2025 season came to an end Sunday morning with a 16-4 loss to <a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildcats/">Kentucky</a> in the Clemson Regional. It marked the 11th time in the last 12 seasons that Clemson has been eliminated in NCAA Tournament Regional play. 



Head coach Erik Bakich, who just wrapped up his third season as the head coach at Clemson, <a href="https://youtu.be/RLkoMNl_hWE?feature=shared">detailed how he’ll remember his team</a> postgame.



“I’d say its a team that overachieved to get to 45 wins,” Bakich said to describe his team. “A team that was very consistent with their work ethic and just the intangibles that they brought from day one in the fall until the very end. There was never a question of effort. There was never a question of attitude. I’ll just always remember this group as they found a way in so many close games. So many one run games. So many tight games. And they just found a way to flex their mental toughness and come out ahead. Incredible really.”



The Tigers finished the regular season with a 41-15 (18-12) record, good enough to earn the No. 11 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. After holding off <a href="https://www.on3.com/college/south-carolina-upstate-spartans/">USC Upstate</a> 7-3 to advance to the winner’s bracket of the Regional however, Clemson dropped back-to-back games to West Virginia (9-6) and Kentucky (16-4) to end its season.



“Early in the season when our first goal was ahead of us with [<a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/south-carolina-gamecocks/">South Carolina</a>], that was an awesome weekend,” Bakich continued. “They’ll always have that. That’ll be part of the history book with this team. But we fell short in the end in the ACC and we fell short in the postseason. We were one win away in the regular season and in the tournament from being champions and obviously ran out of gas here. It’s a tough tournament and you have to understand how hard it is to get through a Regional. Everybody’s good and everyone’s especially good now in college baseball.”



Along with its two wins over heated rival South Carolina back in February, Clemson had had four players selected to All-ACC Teams this season. This list includes sophomore right-handed pitcher <a href="https://clemsontigers.com/sports/baseball/roster/aidan-knaak/">Aidan Knaak</a> (First Team), senior right-handed pitcher <a href="https://clemsontigers.com/sports/baseball/roster/lucas-mahlstedt/">Lucas Mahlstedt</a> (First Team), junior outfielder <a href="https://clemsontigers.com/sports/baseball/roster/cam-cannarella/">Cam Cannarella</a> (Second Team) and sophomore DH <a href="https://clemsontigers.com/sports/baseball/roster/collin-priest/">Collin Priest</a> (Third Team).



“It’s so important to get in the winner’s bracket and get in the winner’s bracket,” Bakich said. “We didn’t do it [Saturday] night, but we are not going to let the outcome of one game today sour what were some pretty good achievements for this team. That being said, it’s not good enough. I know that. I’ve been here for the best of Clemson baseball in 2002 and have experienced coming so close. Playing for a National Championship. It feels exactly like this. There’s only one team truly happy at the end.”
