Clemson AD Graham Neff comments on Dabo Swinney extension

There was a building process but since taking over as head coach, Dabo Swinney has made Clemson one of the top programs in all of college football. Two national championships have come back to South Carolina with the Tigers and there are a few more expected. Even with the down season a year ago, there is nothing but positivity around Swinney’s program.
To reward Swinney, Clemson gave him a brand new contract. Athletic director Graham Neff commented on the decision, saying the two sides were “proactive” in getting a fresh deal sorted out. Of course, there are positives on the football field. However, Neff discussed some of the things Swinney did off the field as a massive success as well.

“Very proactive with Coach on this,” Neff said. “This is my 10th fall, my 10th football season here. Coach certainly predates that but what he’s done with the program. Six College Football Playoffs, four national championship appearances. Two nattys. On the field, it speaks for itself. But off the field, his values, impact on the community, the institution. What that looks like from an academic standpoint.
“Our board, our president — the alignment there is incredibly strong. So the proactivity for us in a changing market. Continue to invest in him so the investment of our program can continue.”

Dabo Swinney, Clemson agrees on new 10-year contract
Dabo Swinney is getting himself a new contract. The Clemson head coach has agreed to an extension, the university announced on Thursday. The contract is a 10-year deal worth $115 million, according to On3’s Matt Connolly.
Swinney previously signed a 10-year, $93 million contract in 2019, before the compensation committee of the Board of Trustees agreed to the new deal on Thursday morning. The new terms keep him with the program through 2031 with an average annual salary of $11.5 million.
Swinney is in his 15th season as Clemson head coach after taking over for Tommy Bowden following his resignation. During his time at the helm, he’s taken the Tigers to four national championship games, winning two of them. Last season, he won his 150th game in his 14th season as a head coach, making him the third FBS coach to reach that total in his first 15 seasons. Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops were the others.
