Former Clemson assistant coach Jeff Scott was fired as the head coach at USF over the weekend.

The change came after USF suffered a 54-28 loss to Temple on Saturday, dropping the Bulls to 1-8 on the season.

Scott went 4-26 during his three years at USF.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney heard the news of Scott being dismissed just before his teleconference started Sunday night and was asked for his reaction to the news.

“Definitely will reach out to Jeff. Know he gave it everything he could down there and it just didn’t apparently work out,” Swinney said. “But he’s a great coach, a great person, got a great family. Somebody I love dearly and know he’ll grow from it.”

Scott worked at Clemson from 2008-2019, starting as the receivers coach and eventually working his way up to co-offensive coordinator.

He was known as one of the best recruiters in the country during his time with the Tigers.

Scott also played receiver at Clemson from 2000-2002.

He is the son of Brad Scott, who was an assistant coach at Florida State and Clemson, as well as the head coach at South Carolina for a stretch.

Could Jeff Scott rejoin Swinney’s staff at Clemson in some capacity? Swinney was asked that question Sunday night.

“I’m not getting into any of that kind of stuff, man. I just want to beat Louisville,” Swinney said. “That’s all I wanna do. That’s the only thing I’m focusing on right now, not all the hypothetical stuff.”

As Swinney said, Clemson plays Louisville on Saturday as the Tigers look to bounce back from their worst performance of the season this past weekend in South Bend.

Clemson lost to Notre Dame 35-14, getting dominated in all three phases of the game.

The Cardinals will come to town confident as they have won four consecutive games and nearly upset Clemson in Louisville last year.

The Tigers have already clinched a spot in the ACC championship game. They can clinch the ACC Atlantic Division title outright with a win over Louisville on Saturday.
