CLEMSON — Tajh Boyd was a huge part of Dabo Swinney’s early success at Clemson as a player.

Now the former Tigers star quarterback will have a chance to help the program as a staff member.

Boyd is joining the Clemson football staff, ClemsonSports.com confirmed Monday morning. Mike Uva of Wach Fox was the first to report the news. Boyd’s role has not been finalized yet, but it will be an analyst/player development type position, he told Wach Fox.

“I’m so excited and I’m encouraged and I’m lucky to be invited back in that space and be a part of such a great staff and be surrounded by some men who are mentors, who are leaders, who are coaches, who are husbands and fathers,” Boyd told Wach Fox. “And getting a chance to learn from those guys is so exciting for me.”

Boyd played at Clemson from 2010-13 and is the school’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns, finishing with 11,904 yards and 107 touchdowns in his college career. He has been out of football but told Uva that Swinney reached out to him over the summer about joining his staff. It was an opportunity Boyd couldn’t pass up.

“I just wanna be a sponge,” Boyd told Wach Fox. “I wanna learn everything. I wanna understand it all. I wanna understand what it looks like to create a game plan. I want to know what their thought process is and figuring out who’s going to play and who’s not.”

Boyd is likely to work on the offensive side of the ball with offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Brandon Streeter, receivers coach Tyler Grisham, running backs coach C.J. Spiller and offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell.

Boyd obviously was a star quarterback and should be able to help D.J. Uiagalelei, Will Taylor, Hunter Helms and the rest of the quarterback room.
