CLEMSON — Trevor Lawrence is taking his Topps card deal to the NFT world.

The former Clemson quarterback and expected No. 1 pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft partnered with the sports card company to release a special set of 50 cards that sold out to high demand. On Tuesday, Lawrence and Topps released a six-piece NFT collection that was created with his brother and sister-in-law, professional artists Chase and Brooke Lawrence.

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unit of data stored on a digital ledger which certifies a digital asset to be unique, thus not interchangeable. NFTs can be used to represent items such as photos, videos, audio, and other types of digital files.

The NFT collection includes five open-edition cards along with a 1/1 action of a signed Superfractor card with a signed Artist Proof card from Lawrence and the two artists. The five cards are each $200, and if a card collector chooses to buy all five, they will receive a limited edition chrome card.

The store launched on Tuesday at 11 a.m. on Mintable and are available for just 24 hours.

“I’m excited to be working with Topps on this really unique set. Chase and Brooke are extremely talented artists and it’s special to collaborate with them on these custom designs,” Lawrence said to Complex.com.

Lawerence’s work with Topps is the latest example of the boom on sports cards. The the industry has exploded over the last year. An ESPN story in October detailed the rise of the industry during this COVID-19 pandemic year, stating that card sales have demolished all-time records in the past year.

He’s expected to be taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first overall pick on Thursday night. The winningest quarterback in Clemson history, the Tigers have never had a player selected with the No. 1 pick.

Recently, he’s signed endorsement deals with Gatorade and Blockfolio. Lawrence and Topps dabbling into the world of NFTs could only be the start for him.
