Colorado's RJ Smith enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

RJ Smith had improved in each of his three seasons at Colorado. He’ll now continue that career elsewhere with his decision to transfer from Boulder.
Smith has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes per On3’s Pete Nakos on Friday.
Smith has spent the past three seasons with the Buffaloes, including a redshirt in his first, as he has played in 41 games the past two years. He has, in that time there, averaged 5.6 points (43.9% FG, 39.3% 3PT), 2.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. He had those numbers improve to 6.2 points (44.8% FG, 38.6% 3PT), 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 34 games, 16 of those being starts, this past season as a sophomore, which made him their leading three-point shooter by percentage while being fourth in assists and sixth in scoring.
Smith, a native of Chino, California, played his high school basketball at Damien in La Verne. He committed to the Buffs as one of two signees for them in 2022 alongside Joe Hurlburt, who himself transferred to Davidson last offseason.

Smith is now the fifth loss of the offseason during this portal cycle for Colorado. Javon Ruffin, Harrison Carrington, Courtney Anderson, and Greg Gerhardt have also all entered their names in order to transfer with Smith, Ruffin, and Carrington being the more notable of the departures.
To this point, the Buffaloes have not added anyone yet in the portal. That leaves them with additions to make now to replenish this depth, especially now with Smith joining those leaving the team this spring.
